About the Designer
Shayla Colvin is the founder of SC Interiors, a new interior design company that provides the service of transforming spaces for homes and businesses.
Before taking the leap of faith to start an interior design company, Shayla spent several years as a paralegal, assisting attorneys in drafting documents and assembling files for litigation procedures. In this field, she gained extensive skills of organization, multi-tasking and communication.
For as long as she can remember, Shayla has loved to create. She’d constantly gawk over colors and patterns, rearrange furniture, paint walls or draw sketches any spare moment she got. She’d sit for hours at a time looking at designs and color pallets, brainstorming new ideas. Unaware that interior design could be a realistic or sustainable career choice, Shayla attended the University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in University Studies. Afterward, she attended Southern Methodist University to partake in their paralegal program, which she completed with a 4.0 GPA.
Although she enjoyed the legal profession, her passion for interior design grew stronger. With Jermell and Shayla starting their family, her eyes were opened to God’s perfect plan. Her love for Christ and His design for the family, ignited her motivation. This business endeavor satisfied both her creative aspirations, as well as her longing to spend plenty of precious time at home, to raise and love on their two beautiful babies, Kensleigh (3) and Khari (14 mo). With the encouragement and support of her loving husband Jermell, she finally decided to take the first steps to follow her dream.
Shayla is ecstatic to begin this new chapter of her life-serving and sharing her gifts- making others’ dreams of transformed spaces come true.
